Film Texture Overlays: Grain, Dust, Light Leaks and Burn

Twelve film texture overlays to give digital footage an analogue feel. Every clip is generated procedurally, so the textures are clean, consistent and free of the logos, frame numbers and compression artefacts that come with scanned stock.

Specs

• 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD), 24 fps, H.264 High, Rec.709. Grain also comes in a 1920 × 1080 version with the grain sized for HD.
• Seamless loops: light leaks, dust and flicker loop over exactly 10 s (their smooth motion is periodic; dust specks and flicker change randomly every frame, like real film). Grain is random per frame, so it never shows a loop point.
• Light leaks and the burn are dithered to avoid banding in 8-bit.
• index.csv lists every file with its blend mode and the measured loop check (last-to-first frame difference against normal frame-to-frame motion).
• About 348 MB zipped.

How to use

Put an overlay on the track above your footage and set its blend mode: Overlay or Soft Light for grain, Screen or Add for dust, leaks and the burn, Multiply for the flicker. Adjust opacity to taste. For dark dust specks, invert the dust clip and use Multiply.

Made procedurally in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pillow) by AssetLoom. No scanned film, no stock footage and no AI generation.
